James Connelly specializes in production design. He is a native of Middletown, New Jersey and earned a B.F.A. from Mason Gross School of the Arts: Rutgers University, with a concentration in Theater Set Design. After apprenticing at the Globe Theater in London UK, in 2002, James moved to California, where he was the youngest resident property shop supervisor at the San Diego Repertory Theater and property shop shopper/buyer at the Old Globe Theatre. After two years in San Diego, he relocated to Los Angeles, where he has been an Art Director on the acclaimed feature film The Kids Are All Right and across a number of television productions — from reality competition to variety to live spectacle. In addition to his recent design work for nine seasons with NBC’s “The Voice,” his credits include the “Top Chef,” “The Daytime Emmys,” “The Grace Helbig Show,” “The Huff Post Show,” and social media innovations for Twitter Inc. James is a governor in the Television Academy in the Production Design peer group, as well as exec producing the Art Director’s Guild Awards. Nominated five times and a recipient of a Primetime Emmy Award, he is the owner and chief creative at his production design company, founded in 2009.
